You must be a paid subscriber of Yahoo Mail Plus to use email programs like Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc., to access your Yahoo mail. For set-up instructions, go to this Help link…
Under the heading 'POP3 Email Client Settings', choose the email program you are using and follow the easy set-up instructions to double-check that you have all the settings correct.
The smtp address might not work for you, depending on your ISP. It doesn't work for me, so I had to get the smtp server IP number from my local ISP. It's a number that looks something like 123.456.78.90 and is entered instead of the smtp address.
In Outlook Express, once you have typed in your pop and smtp insructions, your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.co.uk") Type your Yahoo! Mail password in the password box. Don't tick the the "Log on using secure server" box. Then click Next, and Finish.
As the Yahoo! Mail SMTP server requires authentication, select Tools > Accounts > Mail tab then double-click your pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk account. Click Servers and check the box by "My Server Requires Authentication". And OK to finish.
Best of luck!
Most of the Outlook Express error messages are due to problems with the internet connection, not the software on your computer.
